Google Caffeine Finally Live!

Google's new indexing infrastructure codenamed Caffeine launched June 8th, about 10 months since it was announced in August 2009. The big question is what does this mean for the user? Caffeine is more about the infrastructure Google uses to index the web than a major ranking algorithm change (there have been several of those in recent months). In layman's terms, it's the WAY Google indexes pages and not a change in HOW it ranks pages.

Google is now able to index the web faster than before (more than 50% faster). One of the major changes is prior to Caffeine a web document would be crawled several times before you would see a change in the search engine results page. With Caffeine, content could be searchable within seconds after it’s crawled. This allows Google to better index the web to handle nearly real time search results. The other major feature of note is Google can now associate additional information with a web page or document data, such as location of a tweet or webpage.

In summary Caffeine is how Google indexes the web, not how it determines rankings. But as Google is able to collect more data there is no doubt that some of that data will be used in ranking algorithms in the future. TopSpot Search optimization focuses on optimizing content for users that is relevant and informational. We believe that increased traffic is nice but traffic that converts is best .
