March Team Member Spotlight: An Lieu, TopSpot’s Lead Programmer

How long have you been working at TopSpot, and what do you do here?An Lieu TopSpot Lead Programmer

I have been working at TopSpot for five years now. I started out as a Web Developer building cool websites, and now I am a programmer and get help the company build awesome web applications. I also get to work with quirky and interesting people and together we are conquering the internet.

What did you do before working here?

I was (and kind of still am) a solo indie game developer before I started at TopSpot. My indie game helped fund my college tuition, and I ended up getting a small following! People even write fan stories and draw fan art about characters in my game! Here is a trope wiki page of one of my games: https://allthetropes.wikia.com/wiki/Ge.ne.sis

How has TopSpot helped you in your career development?

TopSpot is incredible. I always feel so lucky to be at such a great place. The people are awesome, and the culture is great.

My work is always challenging as it should be, and I learn so much from everything I do. Better yet, the TopSpot management team never stops trying to make things better for us and allow me to grow and do what I love.”

How has TopSpot helped you in your personal development?

When I proposed to the love of my life, so many TopSpotters came to help! We arranged a surprise in a churchyard across from our previous building. My co-workers met her, gave her a pop-up story book that I made, and then brought her to the churchyard where I proposed to her. It was wild, even Anita (our Vice President) took time from her crazy schedule to help with my proposal!

What are some of your hobbies? What do you enjoy doing on your days off?

I like to draw. I also enjoy making games since it gives me the opportunity to draw, program and tell stories. It’s a great outlet for my creative needs.

Some of An’s Favorite Creations

I also make clay sculptures, craft steampunk jewelry and play with LEGOs and I recently make a robot for our web team! Whenever we launch a new website, our reporting software alerts the robot and it hits a gong in the office! It has been a big “hit”. Pun intended.

I also love reading books and playing video games, but who doesn’t.

What do you enjoy most about working at TopSpot?

If I have to pick only one thing, I’d say that it’s definitely the people. Our people are something special.
