TopSpot Team Member Spotlight: Beth Shockley

At TopSpot, our commitment to our clients starts with our team. We always strive to hire extraordinary people who will bring the passion, confidence, eagerness to learn and positive attitude that is necessary to set us apart from other companies. That being said, we are pretty fond of our team members and rely on their knowledge, growth & passion to help us be an extension of your company. We highlight different TopSpotters each month so you can see why we believe we have the best team out there.

July Team Member Spotlight: Beth Shockley, Director of Marketing

How long have you been working at TopSpot, and what do you do here? Beth Shockley, Director of Marketing at TopSpot Internet Marketing

I started working at TopSpot in 2008 (yes, 9 years ago!!) as a Paid Search Account Manager. I remember the first time I saw an ad I wrote show up on Google and I was hooked. After a few years, I was promoted to a Team Lead position where I managed a Customer Relationship Team. I loved learning about the different aspects of search and seeing first-hand how Pay Per Click and Search Engine Optimization worked together. In 2013, I moved into the role of Client Strategies Manager where I worked with each of TopSpot’s CRTs to create search engine marketing strategies for our customers.

About a year and a half ago, I moved into my role as TopSpot’s Director of Marketing. My role (in a nutshell) is getting the voice of TopSpot out to the masses. We have launched a new website, implemented a marketing automation tool, hosted webinars and events across the US and are just getting started! It’s a very challenging but equally rewarding job where I learn something new almost every day, which is hard to find.

What has been your proudest moment working at TopSpot?

I don’t think there’s one specific moment per say, but more like a lot of small, everyday moments.

Seeing people that I managed in the past stepping into management roles themselves, or just doing great work for their clients on a daily basis, that is what makes me the proudest.”

Do you have any favorite memories that stick out from the last nine years?

There are a lot of great memories that stick out, but I have to say getting to attend conferences with other TopSpotters pretty much always results in some fun times. When you’re in the same environment every day, it can be easy to lose perspective of how awesome the people you work with are. You add a photobooth to the mix, and well… the photo below pretty much sums it up!

**Disclaimer – I also learned a lot of great tips and strategies that I was able to apply to accounts and share with other team members when I got back.

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?

I was at a wine tasting a few years back and the woman leading the tasting referred to herself as a “wine geek”, which to me, sounds like a pretty amazing job title!

What do you like to do for fun?

About two years ago, my husband and I moved back to Kentucky where I am originally from, so we are enjoying getting settled back into Kentucky life and spending more time with family. As a University of Louisville fan who is married to a University of Kentucky fan (and living in Lexington, where the university is located), we’ve been thrown back into the rivalry in full force! Last New Year’s Eve, we had two separate bowl game watch parties. One upstairs for UofL fans and one downstairs for UK fans. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) both teams lost. I’m fairly certain the nachos I made for both parties were the only real winner that day! We are also the proud parents of a 1½ year old Golden Retriever named Lola. I have really enjoyed getting to see the world through the eyes of a puppy. It’s entertaining to say the least! She has a lot of energy, so we’re always working with her on new tricks or her retrieving skills. She has almost perfected TopSpotting, so stay tuned for that photo!

What do you want people to know about TopSpot that they may not know already?

The people at TopSpot have always (and will always) go above and beyond to make sure that their team is taken care of. Being a recent college graduate in a new city, I knew next to no one when I start working at TopSpot. My co-workers quickly became my friends and mentors. They made sure I was living in a safe part of town, was able to make it home for family emergencies, had someone to eat lunch with, etc. Fast forward to nine years later, and those same people are still there for me.

TopSpot is not your average company. It’s a family, and that’s not something you’re going to find very often. TopSpot isn’t the norm, and that is why I love it.
